Information We Collect

ScoreKeeper is designed with your privacy in mind. The app stores all game data locally on your device and optionally syncs via your personal iCloud account or our collaboration servers.

Local Data Storage

  • All game scores, player names, and statistics are stored locally on your device
  • If you enable iCloud sync, this data is stored in your private iCloud container
  • We do not have access to your game data or iCloud information

Collaborative Features

Server-Based Collaboration (Optional)

When you enable collaboration on a game:

Data Sent to Our Servers:

  • Game name and type
  • Player names (no personal info)
  • Scores and timestamps
  • Share codes (6-character game identifiers)
  • Anonymous device IDs

Data NOT Sent to Servers:

  • Email addresses or contact information
  • Phone numbers
  • Location data
  • Payment information
  • Personal photos or avatars (stored locally only)

Security:

  • All connections use HTTPS/WSS encryption
  • Share codes expire after 30 days of inactivity
  • No account required - anonymous by default
  • Games can be deleted at any time by any participant

Nearby Player Discovery (Optional)

When you enable "Visible to Nearby Players":

Data Broadcast Locally (via Bluetooth/WiFi):

  • Your device name (e.g., "Alice's iPhone")
  • Anonymous device ID (UUID)
  • Whether you have an active game open

Data NOT Broadcast:

  • Your game data or scores
  • Player names from your games
  • Personal information
  • Location coordinates
  • Contact information

Technology Used:

  • Multipeer Connectivity - Apple's peer-to-peer framework (same as AirDrop)
  • Bluetooth Low Energy - For device discovery
  • WiFi Direct - For data transfer
  • End-to-end encryption - All data encrypted by Apple's framework

Privacy Controls: You can control who discovers you via Settings → Privacy & Sharing → Nearby Players Discovery:

  1. Off - Not discoverable by anyone
  2. Contacts Only (Default) - Only known contacts can find you
  3. Everyone (10 Minutes) - Temporarily discoverable, auto-reverts to Contacts Only

Data Retention:

  • Discovery data is NEVER sent to servers
  • All peer-to-peer, device-to-device only
  • No history or logs kept
  • Stops immediately when you close the app or disable visibility

Permissions Required:

  • Local Network - To find devices on same WiFi network
  • Bluetooth - To discover nearby devices via BLE
  • No Location Permission Required - We never access your location

Third-Party Services

ScoreKeeper does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Collaboration Backend (optional feature):

  • Self-hosted servers (not third-party)
  • Only used when you enable collaboration
  • Data encrypted in transit
  • No data sold or shared with third parties

Data Sharing

We do not collect, sell, or share any personal information with third parties.

What Stays on Your Device:

  • All local games and scores
  • Player avatars and photos
  • Game templates
  • Statistics and achievements
  • Privacy settings

What Goes to Our Servers (only if you enable collaboration):

  • Game data for active collaborative games
  • Anonymous device identifiers
  • Share codes

What NEVER Leaves Your Device/Local Network:

  • iCloud data (goes to your iCloud, not our servers)
  • Nearby discovery broadcasts (local peer-to-peer only)
  • Personal photos and avatars
  • Contact information

Your Privacy Rights

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: All data is accessible in the app
  • Export: Export all games to JSON or CSV
  • Delete: Delete individual games or reset all data
  • Opt-Out of Collaboration: Never enable collaboration to keep all data local
  • Opt-Out of Nearby: Set privacy to "Off" to disable discovery
  • Opt-Out of iCloud: Disable in iOS Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud

Data Retention

Local Data:

  • Stored on your device indefinitely
  • You control deletion

iCloud Data:

  • Stored in your iCloud according to Apple's policies
  • You control via iOS Settings

Collaboration Server Data:

  • Active games: Retained while game is active
  • Inactive games: Retained for 30 days, then auto-deleted
  • You can delete any time via the app

Nearby Discovery Data:

  • Not stored anywhere
  • Broadcast stops when app closed
  • No logs or history kept
